About Orentius
An older Roman martyrology remembers Orentius and Patience together at Huesca in Spain on May 1. It calls them martyrs but gives no account of what happened to them. The notice also names Orientius, bishop of Auch, later on the same page. Those are distinct figures, despite the nearly identical names.
Huesca's diocesan history remembers Orentius and Patience as the parents of Lawrence, the Roman deacon and martyr. The diocese presents that early setting as tradition. A scholarly study of Huesca's Lawrence traditions locates the remembered tombs of the parents at Loreto and traces the local stories through the later Middle Ages. These sources show how Orentius entered the city's religious memory; they do not establish a contemporary record of his family, occupation, or death.
The record therefore supports a short account of remembrance rather than a detailed life. His exact period, personal places, and manner of death remain unknown. The May 1 observance and later Huesca tradition explain his place in the local calendar without turning a late family story into a verified biography.
