About Ursula
The Cologne tradition remembers virgin martyrs associated with a church outside the city walls, and later placed Ursula at their head. The Archdiocese of Cologne distinguishes this local cult from the elaborate legend of Ursula as a British princess leading 11,000 companions on a pilgrimage and being killed by the Huns. The detailed narrative is not established historical fact: the reference evidence is sparse, and early major martyrologies do not record the full story. Ursula and her companions are commemorated on October 21.
