About Abraham of Pechenga

Abraham of Pechenga is remembered with Coprius as a founder of a wilderness monastery dedicated to the Savior. The received account dates their foundation beside the Pechenga River near Vologda to 1492.

A diocesan account identifies both men as monks of the Kirillo-Belozersk monastery. It says their written life was lost in a raid, leaving little personal detail. Abraham’s surviving remembrance therefore rests chiefly on the monastic work he shared with Coprius.
