About Aceolus and Acius

Aceolus and Acius are remembered as two Christian ministers who suffered martyrdom near Amiens, in present-day France. The received account places their deaths around 303, during the persecution under the emperor Diocletian.

Acius is described as a deacon and Aceolus as a subdeacon. Their martyrdom accounts circulated widely, but the Catholic Church in Norway’s biography judges those accounts unreliable.

Their commemoration is on 1 May. The church of Saint-Acheul outside the walls of Amiens was formerly the diocese’s cathedral.
