Agabius of Novara

Portrait of Agabius of Novara

About Agabius of Novara

Agabius was the second bishop of Novara in the first half of the fifth century. The diocesan account distinguishes this historical outline from two much later versions of his Life, written in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries.

Those later accounts emphasize devotion to the Eucharist. They preserve the way medieval Christians remembered him, rather than contemporary testimony to every episode of his ministry.

He died at Novara, where his relics are venerated in the cathedral.

He remains a secondary patron of both the city and the diocese.
