About Agnes Kim Hyo-ju
Agnes Kim Hyo-ju became a Catholic with her mother and siblings after her father died. She and her sisters Columba and Clara chose to remain unmarried.
They lived with their brother Anthony near Seoul, devoting themselves to prayer, religious reading and helping people in need.
Police arrested Agnes and Columba in May 1839. The sisters refused to renounce their religion or disclose where their brother and religious books could be found.
Agnes was executed outside Seoul’s Small West Gate on September 3, 1839.
The encyclopedia gives her birth year as 1815.
