About Agrippinus of Naples

Agrippinus is known here through the local episcopal tradition preserved in the Gesta episcoporum Neapolitanorum, a work the Archdiocese of Naples dates to the ninth century. That source places him sixth in its list of Neapolitan bishops and remembers him as a defender and intercessor for the city. These statements document the medieval memory of Agrippinus; they do not establish a contemporary biography from his lifetime. The same account links Agrippinus with the church of St. Stephania and the translation of his relics there. It also distinguishes this tradition from unsupported chronological precision: the suggested years 218–225 were added later without a historical basis. Accordingly, no birth or death year is supplied here. He remains an early bishop in Neapolitan memory, with a local feast on November 9.
