Ailbe of Emly
About Ailbe of Emly
Ailbe is remembered as an early Irish bishop and the founder associated with Emly. His cult became closely connected with Munster and the church of Cashel and Emly.
Later lives describe him as preceding Patrick, but the official source questions that chronology. The stories of a wolf protecting him as a child belong to legend.
His death is usually placed early in the sixth century, with several years proposed.
