Altmann of Passau

About Altmann of Passau
Altmann became bishop of Passau in 1065 and worked to reform clergy and religious communities. His support for Pope Gregory VII and the rival king Rudolf brought him into conflict with Henry IV, who expelled him from Passau in 1078.
He founded Göttweig in 1083 for a community following Augustine’s rule; its Benedictine life began after his death. He died at Zeiselmauer on August 8, 1091, and was buried at Göttweig.
The parish church at Paudorf explicitly names him as its patron.
