Amandus of Bordeaux

Portrait of Amandus of Bordeaux

About Amandus of Bordeaux

Amandus served as a priest with Delphinus before succeeding him as bishop of Bordeaux around 404. He prepared Paulinus of Nola for baptism and remained in contact with him.

During the upheavals of the early fifth century, he yielded episcopal leadership to Seurin, then resumed it after Seurin’s death. The diocesan history also records correspondence with Jerome and places Amandus’s death around 432.
