About Antipas of Pergamum
Revelation 2:13 is the earliest and clearest source for Antipas. In its message to the church at Pergamum, it calls him a faithful witness and says he was martyred there. This establishes a remembered Christian witness killed in Pergamum, but the verse does not state his office, exact date of death, or the circumstances of his execution.The Orthodox Church in America commemorates Antipas on April 11 and identifies him as bishop of Pergamum in its church tradition. The verse in Revelation does not call him a bishop, so this title is presented as later tradition rather than a fact established by the earliest text. No life dates or birthplace are entered.
