Arigius of Nevers

About Arigius of Nevers
Arigius, known locally as Aré, was a sixth-century bishop of Nevers. Nominis reports his participation in councils at Orléans, including that of 549, and at Paris in 551.
His remembrance is closely connected with Decize. The municipal account identifies the church of Saint-Aré as dedicated to him.
The town also preserves a legend in which the boat carrying his body traveled upstream to the place of burial. This is a story of his later cult, not an independently established river journey.
