About Aurelian of Lyon

Aurelian was a monk and abbot before becoming bishop of Lyon in 875. The diocesan museum account associates him with Ainay, Saint-Claude and Nantua.

He helped restore Ainay with monks from Bonneval and established another monastic community near Belley. His episcopate also involved councils and support for Boso’s attempt to establish a Burgundian kingdom in 879.

Nominis places his death in 895 and his local feast on July 4.
