Biography
Ayraldus of Maurienne

About Ayraldus of Maurienne
Ayraldus was a canon associated with Hugh of Grenoble before becoming bishop of Maurienne in the twelfth century. Charters identify him as a former dean of Saint-André.
Later tradition presents him as a Carthusian monk before his episcopate. Historian Sylvain Excoffon concludes that the surviving evidence does not establish that earlier Carthusian membership.
Nominis lists his local commemoration on January 2.
