Benedict of Cagliari

About Benedict of Cagliari
Benedict of Cagliari began his religious life as a monk at Montecassino. Around 1095 Pope Urban II appointed him bishop of Dolio on Sardinia.
The church biography preserves a more specific record from 1112: Benedict gave Santa Maria dell’Arco and its lands and vineyards to the monastery attached to Saint Saturninus in Cagliari. Two months later he resigned his bishopric and withdrew to that monastery.
He was buried there after a death traditionally placed on February 17, perhaps in 1120. The entry explicitly says that little information survives about him; its account of miracles comes through the monastic historian Peter the Deacon.
