Bernard of Carinola

About Bernard of Carinola
Bernard of Carinola studied at Montecassino under Abbot Desiderius before becoming a priest. When Desiderius became Pope Victor III, he appointed Bernard bishop of Forum Claudii in 1087.
The church biography dates Bernard’s episcopal consecration to March 21 of that year. In 1100 Bernard moved the bishop’s seat to nearby Carinola, the town with which his name and later veneration are associated.
He died on March 12, 1109 and was buried in the cathedral. Although some tradition identifies his birthplace as Capua, the entry acknowledges that his precise place of birth is unknown.
