Bregowine

About Bregowine
Bregowine, also known as Bregwin, became archbishop of Canterbury in 761. The church account says that Pope Paul I sent him the pallium associated with his office.
It records his attempt to recover the monastery at Cookham and mentions later references to a synod. A surviving letter to Lullus of Mainz recalls their friendship in Rome and the disruption of their contact by war.
Bregowine died in 764 after a brief tenure and was buried in Canterbury’s cathedral baptistery. His remains were moved after the fire of 1067 and again in the twelfth century, when Eadmer wrote a short Life.
