Biography
Buite of Monasterboice
About Buite of Monasterboice
Buite is remembered as the founder of Monasterboice in County Louth. His surviving Latin Life is late and imperfect, and its miraculous journeys cannot be treated as a contemporary itinerary. His name also appears in the Irish litany of pilgrim saints.
The remains at Monasterboice testify to the community’s later history, not to buildings securely associated with Buite himself. The surviving churches include work from several medieval centuries.
