Caprasius of Agen
About Caprasius of Agen
Caprasius is remembered as a Christian martyr of Agen in southwestern Gaul. A church dedicated to him there in the sixth century provides an early witness to his veneration. The claim that he was Agen’s first bishop appears much later and has no supporting historical evidence.
A ninth-century tradition joined his story to that of Faith of Agen. In that account, her courage moved him to leave hiding and confess his Christianity.
The received date of his death is about 305. His commemoration belongs to the history of devotion in Agen, while the detailed martyrdom story remains a later tradition.
