Carpus of Beroea

About Carpus of Beroea

Carpus enters the New Testament in a brief request in the Second Letter to Timothy. The writer asks Timothy to bring the cloak left with Carpus at Troas, together with books and parchments.

That passing reference does not provide a life story. Later Greek tradition identifies Carpus as a bishop.

He was included among the Seventy disciples in an ecclesiastical list attributed to Dorotheus of Tyre. The title “of Beroea” belongs to that later tradition rather than to the biblical passage.
