Catellus of Castellammare

About Catellus of Castellammare
Catellus is remembered as bishop of Stabia, now Castellammare di Stabia. The received life links him with Antoninus of Sorrento.
According to that account, the two sought a more solitary religious life on Monte Aureo and built an oratory dedicated to Michael.
The story describes Catellus’s imprisonment following complaints about his absence from his people, and his later release.
His life survives through an anonymous narrative from Sorrento and later copies. It does not establish precise birth and death years, although tradition places his death in the ninth century.
