About Catherine Chong Chor-yom

Catherine Chong Chor-yom came from Suwon in Gyeonggi Province. She worked in a household where a family member taught her Catholicism.

Her employer punished her after she refused to participate in seasonal religious rites. She escaped to Seoul and lived in Catholic households. She later helped care for Andrew Kim Tae-gon’s home.

After Andrew’s arrest in 1846, Catherine was arrested with Susanna U Sur-im, Theresa Kim Im-i and Agatha Yi Kan-nan. They refused to deny their faith despite severe punishment and died in prison in Seoul on September 20, 1846.
