About Devota

Devota is remembered as a young Christian martyr of Corsica. The received story places her death during the Roman persecutions around 303.

According to the legend, Christians carried her remains by sea, and a dove guided their boat to the coast at Monaco. The dove is part of the devotional narrative, not independent historical evidence.

The oldest known version of her Passion dates from the late eleventh or early twelfth century. It is separated from her supposed lifetime by many centuries.

Her cult developed in Corsica and Monaco. The sources also note occasional confusion with Julia of Corsica, a reason to avoid treating every later detail as established biography.
