About Dionysius of Vienne
Dionysius is remembered as a bishop of Vienne in Gaul. Older tradition placed him in the second century and connected him with early missionaries.
Historical evidence instead places him in the fourth century. He probably died around the middle of that century; the much earlier chronology should not be treated as established.
He is remembered as a confessor rather than a martyr. His commemoration is on May 8 in the Roman Martyrology, although other local dates are also reported.
