Domitian of Chalons

About Domitian of Chalons
Domitian appears after Donatian in the diocese of Châlons’ episcopal list. The diocesan history remembers them as successors of Memmius.
The late tradition described by Nominis portrays him as a companion of Memmius and a preacher. These details belong to the received account, rather than to a contemporary record of his work.
That account needs a clear qualification: Nominis identifies its narrative witness as a manuscript dating approximately to the fourteenth century, long after the third-century setting assigned to Domitian. The received story therefore preserves a local memory rather than contemporary testimony to his activities. His local commemoration falls on August 9.
The diocesan history records relics attributed to Domitian at Saint-Memmie, together with those of Memmius, Pome and Donatian.
