Donatian of Chalons

Portrait of Donatian of Chalons

About Donatian of Chalons

Donatian appears immediately after Memmius in the diocese of Châlons’ episcopal list, before Domitian. The diocesan history remembers both men as successors of Memmius.

A Donatianus appears among the Gallic bishops in Athanasius’ list of subscribers to the decisions of Sardica. The list does not give his see. Athanasius explains that it includes both bishops who subscribed at the council and others who assented afterward, so the name alone does not establish that Donatian of Châlons attended.

His Catholic commemoration is listed on August 7.

The diocesan history records relics attributed to Donatian at Saint-Memmie, together with those of Memmius, Pome and Domitian.
