Biography
Donatus of Euroea

About Donatus of Euroea
Donatus was remembered as bishop of Euroea in Epirus. The church historian Sozomen describes his holiness and the miracles associated with him.
Tradition tells of a dragon, a poisoned well and healings. Those stories express his reputation as a wonderworker; they are not independently verified episodes.
In 602, relics identified as Donatus’s were transferred to Corfu, and a dispute over them was addressed by Pope Gregory the Great.
He should be distinguished from Donatus of Arezzo. The episcopal city belongs to Epirus, despite a mistaken association with Cyprus in some later accounts.
