About Eugenius of Milan

Eugenius is remembered as a bishop in Milanese tradition, though his episcopal status is historically uncertain. The municipal account of his church at Tornavento describes a tradition that he came from beyond the Alps and defended the Ambrosian rite.

That account cautions that the medieval stories are not considered reliable historical biography. His veneration is more securely visible in the churches and altars dedicated to him in the Milanese territory by the late thirteenth century.

Tornavento continues to celebrate him on December 30. Ennio Apeciti reports Antonio Rimoldi’s conclusion that neither Eugenius’s lifetime nor even his status as a bishop can be established.
