Eutychius of Como

About Eutychius of Como
Eutychius served as bishop of Como in the sixth century. The diocesan succession places him eighth in its list of bishops, after Eusebius and before Eupilius.
Como’s account remembers a bishop who combined care for his community with periods of solitary prayer. It describes his visits to a quiet place on a nearby mountain that later bore his name. This is the local church’s remembrance of his spiritual life, rather than a detailed record of individual episcopal decisions.
The same account identifies Borgovico as his birthplace and dates his death to 539. It places his first burial in the church of the Holy Apostles outside the walls, followed by the transfer of his body to the basilica of San Giorgio in Borgovico. It does not date that transfer.
The Diocese of Como commemorates Eutychius on June 4.
