Felim of Kilmore

Portrait of Felim of Kilmore

About Felim of Kilmore

Felim is remembered as a sixth-century church founder at Kilmore near Cavan. The diocese acknowledges that little is known of his life, while preserving the tradition that his church gave the diocese its name.

He is venerated as a patron of Kilmore. The modern cathedral bears his name alongside that of Patrick, continuing this local remembrance.

The diocesan history dates the present cathedral’s construction to 1938–1942, its dedication to 1942 and its consecration to 1947. These dates belong to the later building, not to Felim’s own church or lifetime.
