About Felix of Brescia

Felix, called Felice in Italian, is remembered among the seventh-century bishops of Brescia. The episcopal chronology published by the Ateneo di Brescia places him after Dominic and before Deusdedit. This identifies his place in the local succession more clearly than it reveals the individual events of his ministry.

Nominis places his death around 650. The Ateneo chronology gives his episcopate as 661–672; comparison with the Nominis date leaves the exact chronology uncertain.

A further chronology appears in Ennio Apeciti’s discussion of Antonio Rimoldi’s scholarship: 617–656. Apeciti reports Rimoldi’s judgment that information about Felix beyond his place among Brescia’s bishops is uncertain. These differing reconstructions do not justify assigning him an exact death date.

Nominis remembers Felix as opposing Arian teaching among the Lombards and lists his commemoration on February 23. Its short notice does not identify particular sermons, councils or writings. That traditional outline can be retained with caution, but it cannot supply a detailed account of his pastoral work.
