About Fortunatus of Naples

Fortunatus was a bishop of Naples remembered in the city’s episcopal succession. His time in office is placed around the middle of the fourth century, without a precise chronology.

The church tradition credits him with protecting his diocese during the Arian controversy.

He was buried in the basilica associated with his name. Later relic transfers continued his veneration within Naples.

The ninth-century marble calendar of Naples records his commemoration on June 14. The surviving outline is mainly an episcopal and liturgical memory, rather than a detailed personal life.
