Gregory the Recluse of the Kiev Caves

About Gregory the Recluse of the Kiev Caves
Gregory is remembered as a fourteenth-century recluse of the Kiev Caves. The Orthodox Church in America's notice draws on a collection about saints whose relics rest in the Cave of Theodosius. That collection describes a life sustained on uncooked grass and says that sick visitors were healed after receiving some of this food from him. These are received hagiographic traditions, rather than independently established medical events. The short remembrance provides no family history, exact life dates, or circumstances of death. It preserves an ascetic portrait and a tradition of healing, without the evidence needed for a detailed personal chronology.
