Hyacintha Mariscotti

About Hyacintha Mariscotti
Hyacintha Mariscotti was born in 1585 to a noble family at Vignanello near Viterbo. She entered a Franciscan community in Viterbo. The Catholic Encyclopedia describes an early period of comfort and social ambition followed by a change in her religious life. Later accounts use this transformation to explain her service to people in need.
She helped organize charitable care and was associated with the Sacconi, a group serving the poor and sick. The work took her concern outside her own convent and connected prayer with practical assistance. Her story is remembered for its marked change of priorities rather than for an uninterrupted record of asceticism.
Hyacintha died at Viterbo on January 30, 1640. Her feast is kept on that day, while the older reference notes a different local Roman observance.
