Biography
Hypatius the Healer of the Kiev Caves
About Hypatius the Healer of the Kiev Caves
Hypatius is remembered for care of sick people in the Kiev Caves community. The Orthodox Church in America's received account describes nights spent in prayer, little sleep, and a strict diet of bread and water. It connects these disciplines with sustained service to people suffering from illness. The notice attributes a gift of healing to him and describes the sick turning to his intercession. Those miraculous claims belong to the community's devotional tradition. His remembrance is joined to that of the fathers of the Far Caves. No exact birth year, death year, family history, or detailed sequence of life events is supplied.
