Ignatius of Batheos Ryakos

About Ignatius of Batheos Ryakos
Ignatius came from Cappadocia and entered the monastery of Christ the Savior, also known as Batheos Ryakos, near Triglia in Asia Minor. His Orthodox Life places him in the tenth century. He learned monastic discipline under the community’s founder, Basil, and passed through successive forms of church ministry before becoming its superior.
The account remembers his practical care for the monastery. He improved its churches, built an enclosure, and resisted political officials who wanted control of its funds. It dates his death to 975, during a return journey from Constantinople. The exact road location is uncertain: the notice names Amorium but suggests Armoutli as more likely. Reports that his relics were found incorrupt belong to the monastery’s hagiographic memory.
