Ignatius of Laconi

Portrait of Ignatius of Laconi

About Ignatius of Laconi

Ignatius was born in 1701 to a farming family at Laconi in Sardinia. He eventually entered and lived as a lay brother, a vocation shaped by ordinary work and sustained contact with neighbors.

For many years he walked through Cagliari seeking alms for his community. The same account notes that even when his eyesight failed, he continued those rounds for a time. Reports of healing and miracles belong to the history of devotion to him, not to claims that can be confirmed from the daily routine itself.

He died on May 11, 1781. The church beatified him in 1940 and canonized him in 1951. His Capuchin community continues to commemorate him on the day of his death, remembering a brother whose public ministry was found in humble repeated service.
