About Ignatius of Loma

Ignatius began his monastic path at the Priluki monastery of the Savior near Vologda. He later received monastic tonsure at the monastery of Cyril of White Lake. The Orthodox calendar explicitly says that the circumstances of his earlier life are unknown.

He went on to the region of Loma, where he founded a wilderness monastery. Disciples gradually joined the community. Later he withdrew again, this time to a forest skete, and pursued a quieter form of ascetic life. This brief movement from community to solitude is the central outline preserved in the consulted account. It does not establish precise birth or death dates. His Orthodox commemoration is on December 28.
