About John Baptist Wu Mantang

John Baptist Wu Mantang was a young Catholic from Xihetou in Hebei. Born in 1883, he belonged to a family caught in the anti-Christian violence of 1900.

The family sought safety at Xiaoluyi in June. When attackers reached the village on June 29, they hid outside it but were discovered. The received account remembers their refusal to deny that they were Christians and their deaths together.

The Vatican canonization list records his age as seventeen.
