About James Zhao Quanxin
James Zhao Quanxin was a Chinese Catholic who served in the military before marrying and settling with his family in Taiyuan. He sometimes worked for the missionaries there. During the arrests of 1900, he continued visiting the imprisoned mission community and carrying out tasks for Bishop Gregorio Grassi.
He chose to remain with the prisoners when they were taken to their deaths. The received account says that former military colleagues tried to identify him as an outsider to save him, but he acknowledged his Catholic faith and was killed with the group.
