Biography
John V of Constantinople

About John V of Constantinople
John V led the church of Constantinople during the reign of Constantine IV, known as Pogonatos. The Orthodox Church in America’s calendar places his patriarchate between 669 and 674. Its surviving notice is brief: it identifies his office and imperial setting without supplying an account of his childhood, appointment, or personal activities.
This John belongs to the seventh century. He should not be confused with John Chrysostom, John the Faster, or the other patriarchs who shared his name. His August 18 commemoration preserves the memory of a bishop whose individual story is only sparsely described in the consulted church calendar.
