About John Wang Rui

John Wang Rui was a Chinese seminarian who entered the junior seminary at Dongergou as a child and continued his formation at Taiyuan. He also belonged to the Franciscan third order. The church biography remembers his singing and his participation in Bishop Francesco Fogolla's European journey.

He returned to the seminary community in Shanxi. When the institution closed during the Boxer uprising, he was among the students captured and imprisoned with missionaries, religious sisters, and staff. He was killed with that group in July 1900, before completing the path to ordination.
