About Joseph Han Chae-kwon
Joseph Han Chae-kwon came from a Catholic family in Chungcheong Province. He married Magdalena Seo and served as a catechist before moving with relatives between communities near Jeonju.
The Korean encyclopedia gives his birth year as 1836, with 1829 as an alternative.
The bishops’ conference instead gives 1835.
During the persecution of 1866, Joseph was arrested with Peter Son Son-ji and Bartholomew Chong Mun-ho. His father tried to obtain his release, but Joseph refused to abandon Catholicism.
He was executed on December 13, 1866.
