About Joseph Yuan Gengyin
Joseph Yuan Gengyin was a Catholic from Hui in Hebei. The church biography remembers him through a single final journey during the Boxer uprising. He was travelling to Dayin to purchase supplies when a group of Boxer fighters stopped him.
They ordered him to worship at a temple. Friends attempted to persuade him to comply and save his life, but he refused to abandon his Catholic faith. He was killed in July 1900. He was canonized in 2000 with the Chinese martyrs.
