Joseph Zhang Wenlan

About Joseph Zhang Wenlan
Joseph Zhang Wenlan was a Chinese seminarian from Sichuan. His education began at a junior seminary, but an early dismissal interrupted his formation. He subsequently taught catechism to children and, with a priest's help, was readmitted to study.
His later work included assisting clergy and recovering the remains of catechists killed at Mokou. He was imprisoned with Paul Chen Changpin and John Baptist Luo Tingyin. Martha Wang Luo Mande supplied the prisoners with food and clean clothes. All four were executed together in July 1861. Joseph remained a seminarian rather than an ordained priest.
