About Julietta Kim
Julietta Kim grew up in a Catholic family that moved to Seoul while she was young. She chose to remain unmarried despite her parents’ wish that she marry. After the persecution of 1801, her parents returned to the countryside, but she remained in Seoul and entered palace service.
She left the court because it was difficult to practice Catholicism there.
Julietta earned her living by selling thread and obtained a small house. She lived independently and regularly received the sacraments.
She was arrested during the persecution of 1839. Despite severe punishment at the police and criminal courts, she refused to abandon her faith or disclose where Catholics and religious books were hidden.
She was executed outside Seoul’s Small West Gate on September 26, 1839.
