Julius of Rome

About Julius of Rome
Julius of Rome is remembered as a senator who became Christian through the preaching of Eusebius and Pontian. The received account includes his household among those who embraced Christianity and names him among the martyrs' companions.
The story places the group under Commodus, around 190. It presents their Christian profession as the reason for their suffering, but the church notice cautions that the surviving Passion is highly unreliable.
The clearest later evidence discussed by that notice concerns the relics of Eusebius and Pontian and their transfer to Vienne in 863. That record does not supply a separate documented biography of Julius.
