Lazarus of Bardiaboch

About Lazarus of Bardiaboch
Lazarus is remembered among nine Christians imprisoned at Bardiaboch in Persia. The Catholic Church in Norway names him separately among the companions of Zanitas.
In the Passion narrative excerpted in the Acta Sanctorum, Jonas and Barachisius visit nine imprisoned Christians, including Lazarus, and encourage them to endure. The prisoners then strengthen one another. The narrative tells their story collectively rather than describing a separate career for Lazarus.
The Norwegian notice gives competing dates for the martyrdom, including 326 and 344. It lists March 27 as the group's commemoration. The collective account preserves his name while leaving his earlier life unknown.
The same account says that Abdissotas later obtained the bodies of the nine prisoners together with those of Jonas and Barachisius. The editors distinguish their death dates and question whether relics of a Lazarus at Bologna can be identified with this Persian martyr.
