Liudhard of Canterbury
About Liudhard of Canterbury
Liudhard was a bishop who accompanied the Frankish princess Bertha to Kent when she married Æthelberht. His name is also associated with a small gold object found near Saint Martin’s church at Canterbury.
Modern scholars identify the inscription as naming Liudhard as bishop. The identity of the depicted face is less certain, so the object cannot establish his appearance.
The French Catholic calendar lists him under the name Létard on February 24.
