About Lucia Wang Cheng
Lucia Wang Cheng grew up at a Catholic orphanage in Wangla, in Hebei, alongside three girls later remembered with her as martyrs. During the Boxer uprising, attackers burned the village church and took the girls captive.
The received account describes pressure on Lucia to marry one of their captors and her refusal. The four were then taken away and killed. She was canonized in 2000 with the Chinese martyrs.
